Attempts support for Tasks
Tasks are a specific content item type that allow administrators to create more engaging learning activities on the platform. For example, where a learner needs to write an essay or upload evidence of something completed off the platform to complete the activity. The completion can optionally be subject to an approval cycle, such that their submission has to be reviewed and approved by their line manager to show that they have gained the necessary skills. Completing a Task can also be linked to the award of a ceritfication, so that organisational compliance can be tracked.
More information about tasks is available in the Explained: Tasks and action based learning article.
Previously, Tasks could be associated with the award of a certification, but could not be used for renewing a certification. This limited their usefulness, as often a task needs to be completed on an annual or biannual basis. To remove this limitation, attempt support has been to Tasks. This enables a task to store learning records against multiple attempts, thereby allowing Tasks to be used as the renewal items for certifications.
The changes in the Administration portal that result from this update, are as follows:
- An ATTEMPTS option has been added to the Task Properties page.
You can now define the number of attempts a learner can have to complete a task (note that an attempt is completed when a task is approved or submitted, where an approval flow is not configured. Learners can go around a review/approval cycle any number of times prior to the item being approved and the current attempt being completed). - The START NEW ATTEMPT option on the curriculum CONTENT page has been enabled for Tasks.
- The Users | {user} | Content | {task-item} page has been updated to allow attempts to be viewed, added, cleared and updated.
- The reports have been updated to include completion records per Task attempt.
The Learner portal has also been updated to allow learners to view an attempt and start a new attempt for Tasks.
