User administrator role
A new User administrator role has been added. This role enables nominated users to perform user related actions on a subset of users as determined by group membership. In common with the existing roles, an administrator can assign this new role to selected users by using the Users | {user} | Roles page. They can then scope the role to one or more specified groups, which determines over which user set the User administrator role applies. For more information about the precise set of permissions granted by the User administrator role, see User Roles Overview.
Updated password administrator role
For LMS instances that use Forms authentication (this does not apply to integrated single-sign-on instances), the existing Password administrator role has been updated. Password administrators can now edit the passwords of all users in any groups they have the Password administrator role over. If one of these groups includes global administrators, the Password administrator can also edit their password.
Note: We recommend that global administrators are not included in any groups managed by a Password administrator.
Pending approval notification emails
A new notification email is now sent to learners to confirm that their enrolment request has been received and is pending approval. This applies to any content item or session configured to require enrolment with admin approval. Previously, learners were only notified via email once their enrolment request had been approved.
Registered interest notification emails
A new notification email is now sent to learners to confirm that their registration of interest in a future session for a given event has been received. The email confirms to the learner that they will be notified when future sessions are scheduled.
Additional statistics available on the administration portal home page
The central panel in the administration home page now includes a summary of user and catalogue statistics. The user summary shows a total user count, together with totals that show how many active vs inactive user accounts there are on the system. The catalogue summary shows the total number of catalogue items together with a breakdown count by content type. These changes make it easy for the administrator to see at a glance how many users and how much content they have in their LMS system.
BCC emails
Global administrators can now specify an email address to be blind copied on all emails sent from the LMS. The admin can specify this email address on the Settings | Email page of the admin portal via the BLIND COPY ALL EMAIL TO field. This feature supports a couple of commonly requested scenarios including:
- A company can set up a mailbox to act as a log of all outgoing LMS emails; for audit purposes.
- A company can send all emails to a specified training administrator or administrative clerk for monitoring purposes.
Minor administration portal UI updates
Within the Users area of the administration portal, the user's Properties page has been renamed as Profile. Also, the groups to which a user belongs are now displayed on their own Groups page. Previously, groups were listed on the user's Profile page. This change brings Groups inline with Roles which are also listed on a dedicated page accessed from the SECTIONS menu when viewing a user's details.
Cloud content delivery network support
Support has been added to enable all uploaded content for a given LMS instance to be pushed to the system's new cloud content delivery network. This is completely transparent to administrators and learners alike. Customer LMS instances will be transitioned to this new delivery mechanism over the coming months. The new content delivery approach results in several key benefits. First, platform scalability is increased enabling the platform to deliver larger volumes of data to larger user numbers. Second, for global deployments, content delivery performance can be improved for learners by deploying multiple, regional based content delivery nodes close to the associated learner population. This helps reduce the impact of network latency and improves performance. Third, for customers with specific regional data sovereignty requirements, content can now be located in a wider range of geographic regions. Note that the geography and location of existing customer content for existing LMS instances will NOT change.
