We are announcing today that we will no longer sell the Luminosity Studio product. This applies both to new customers and renewals for existing customers. For currently licensed users, we will end support for the Luminosity Studio product on 30th November 2020.
After the end of support, the Luminosity Studio collaboration server will no longer be available, and therefore the collaboration aspects of the product will no longer function.
If you need to continue to support/maintain content developed using Studio, we will provide (on request) existing customers with an unsupported perpetual licence (replacing the current annual licence). Civica will not offer support for this perpetual licence, but you may continue to use the tool (without collaboration functions) indefinitely.
To prepare for this change, we will be providing an update to the tool which will remove any existing licensing checks and permit long-term usage, without any requirement for new licence keys.
You should prepare for the end-of-life by ensuring that you have downloaded local copies of all courses stored on the server. You should also ensure that you have checked-out all courses so that you can make any changes necessary. If you do not download and check out all courses, you will not be able to edit or republish those courses.
To do this, in Luminosity Studio, open the course and then use the Sharing | Check-out option, at the project level (do not use page level check outs), to check-out your projects.
If you have page templates shared to the collaboration server, you should also save these to your local machine, by clicking Tools | Template Designer, then in Template Designer, click File | Refresh Templates From Server.
Please be aware that when you have local copies of courses, these are stored on your local machine and not backed up on the Civica server. You will be responsible for ensuring that your machine is backed up to protect against data loss, for example, due to hardware failure. Civica will not be able to assist in data recovery if a machine with Luminosity Studio installed suffers data loss or corruption.
Note that the locations on your machine, where Studio stores data, is shown in the Help | About dialog, which lists the file locations used, as in the example below.
If you have any questions regarding this end-of-life statement, please contact Civica Learning Support (Civica Learning Support).
