When a learner portal is deployed for your lms, it will be located at a standard URL, of the form: https://<customer>.civica-learning.com. The learner portal will be linked to your admin portal, which will have been deployed to a similar, administrator specific URL, e.g. https://<customer>.learning-admin.com
On specific request, it is possible to configure your learner portal so that your users access the learner portal using your own domain e.g. <customerdomain>.com. This is sometimes referred to as a vanity URL.
To configure a specific vanity URL, you will need to choose the sub-domain that you wish to use to host your learner portal. This could just be ‘www’ or could be another sub-domain such ‘academy’. With these examples, your learners would then access your learner portal at https://www.<customerdomain>.com, or https://academy.<customerdomain>.com.
In order to provide this functionality, your IT department will need to perform some configuration tasks:
- Setup the DNS configuration (a CNAME mapping), from the domain you want to use, to <customer>.civica-learning.com. e.g. a CNAME from www.<customerdomain>.com with a target of <customer>.civica-learning.com
- Add an additional CNAME DNS record to the domain you want to use, that permits Civica to automatically manage the SSL certificate for the requested vanity URL
We will provide the CNAME record details, for your IT to implement. When configured by your IT team, we will update your learner portal to use your chosen domain.
