Note: Independent Learning Activities (sometimes referred to as External Learning Activities) are deprecated, and are not implemented for new customers. This article remains available for customers who use this legacy feature.
To add an ILA for a learner
- Log in to your Civica Learning Administration portal, as Global administrator or a User administrator.
- On the NAVIGATION pane, click Users.
- On the Results page, click the account name of the account that you wish to administer.
INFO: To find the required learner, use the search or filter options.
- In the SECTIONS section, click External learning.
- In the ACTIONS section, click Register learning.
- In the Register a new external learning event dialog box, enter all the required information about the external learning, and then click Add:
To review or edit a learner's ILAs
- Log in to your lms Administration portal, as Global administrator or a User administrator.
- On the NAVIGATION pane, click Users.
- On the Results page, click the account name of the account that you wish to administer.
INFO: To find the required learner, use the search or filter options.
- In the SECTIONS section, click External learning.
- Click the ILA that you wish to review or edit.
- In the Update external learning event dialog box, there are three tabs:
- Details. The details of the ILA. You can update any of the displayed information, as required, including changing the APPROVAL STATUS (Draft, Pending approval, Approved or Rejected) or COMPLETION STATUS (Completed, Passed or Failed). Once the configurations are complete, click Update.
- Comments. All comments associated with the ILA, logged by the learner, their approver or an administrator, are listed.
- To add a new comment, enter the required text, and then click Post.

- Attachments. All attachments associated with the ILA, added by the learner, their approver or an administrator, are listed.
- To add a new attachment, click Upload attachments. In the Upload attachments dialog box, either drag-and-drop the file onto the Drag and drop files here box, or click Browse to manually select the required file. Once your file has uploaded, click Close.
- To view an attachment, click the attachment filename.
- Details. The details of the ILA. You can update any of the displayed information, as required, including changing the APPROVAL STATUS (Draft, Pending approval, Approved or Rejected) or COMPLETION STATUS (Completed, Passed or Failed). Once the configurations are complete, click Update.
- Once the configurations are complete, click Cancel.
To delete an ILA
- Log in to your lms Administration portal, as Global administrator or a User administrator.
- On the NAVIGATION pane, click Users.
- On the Results page, click the account name of the account that you wish to administer.
INFO: To find the required learner, use the search or filter options.
- In the SECTIONS section, click External learning.
- Adjacent to the learning that you wish to delete, click the Trash can icon.
- In the Delete external learning event dialog box, click Delete.
