Curricula Attempts
The system supports attempts for various (but not all) content types. Attempts can be used in two ways:
- To enable a user to retake an item they have previously completed, either to repeat the course, or to retake it where they have not achieved a passing score.
- To enable a user to repeat an item, where the repeat of that item is required to re-certify for a certification, and where renewal is managed by the system.
With the first option, administrators must configure the item to enable attempts. Users are then provided with the option to start a new attempt for a completed item in the learner portals. Each attempt is tracked and administrator can view details of the user's attempts in the administration portal and reports. Administrators can choose to limit the number of attempts that a user has for a given item. We refer to this as explicit attempts support.
With the second option, the system will automatically start a new attempt for a selected content item. This new attempt is started for the user regardless of whether the item is configured to support attempts, and regardless of whether the user has reached their attempt limit. When the system begins a new attempt automatically for a user, the user will note that their status for the item has reset to Not Started, and they are able to complete the item again. Where the item was not already configured to support attempts, the user does not need to be aware of the attempts being used. We refer to this an implicit attempts support.
Previously, curricula did not support either explicit or implicit attempts. We have enhanced the system by enabling implicit attempts for curricula. This enables administrators to configure a curriculum as the awarding item for a certification renewal. The relevant certification will then renew when the user completes all relevant items within the curriculum (and thus completes the curriculum in the new attempt).
As we are aware that the renewal criteria necessarily varies, in some cases you may require a user to repeat every item within a curriculum to renew a certification, whereas in other cases only a subset of items may need to be repeated (a common example would be requiring users to repeat just a final assessment). To support both of these options, a new checkbox has been added to the Content page within the curriculum configuration, to indicate the items which the user must repeat. When a new attempt is started on a curriculum, a new attempt will also be started on each of the marked items.

Excellent update Neil, is it possible to add this function to Tasks?
I have a Task that learners need to complete every 3 months (or less) to be classed as competent.
